Contingent

Depending on a condition or specified event.

This sometimes arises in relation to certain gifts under the terms of a will.

For example a person making a will might stipulate that a gift can only be made depending on a certain event happening first or a certain set of circumstances happening.e.g. A says that he or she will bequeath a gold ring to B as long as B gets married.  The bequest only takes effect on the death of the person making the will and so long as B marries.  B will be known as a contingent beneficiary.
