Legal services ombudsman

This post was created under the courts and legal services act 1990 in order to examine complaints against solicitors.

The post of Legal Services Ombudsman was created under the Courts and Legal Services Act 1990 in order to examine complaints against solicitors as well as barristers and licensed conveyancers where the professions own regulatory body did not provide a satisfactory answer. 

Under the Access to Justice Act 1999 the Ombudsman has the power to order the solicitor to pay compensation or to order the Law Society itself to compensate the client.
