Registered land

Land which is registered at hm land registry

The HM Land Registry is a government controlled department which has been charged with the responsibility for registering the ownership of land in the UK. Instead of keeping and having to produce lengthy deeds and documents to prove your ownership of property the idea was to simplify the whole process of land ownership and conveyancing in order to make the process of buying and selling land cheaper and quicker.

The owner is entitled to a Land Certificate which is their guarantee of ownership.  The system therefore provides a valuable protection to sellers and buyers alike.  Once registered, property is identified and recorded, often by reference to an Ordnance Survey Map and given a unique property reference number for future identification purposes and protection.
