Specific intent

Intention can be defined as "the decision to bring about a prohibited consequence".

Intention is defined in R. v Mohan as "the decision to bring about a prohibited consequence". Intention is the highest level of mens rea and is also referred to as specific intent or specific intention.

Although never defined by Parliament, the following definition has been put forward by the Draft Criminal Code - '.......a person acts intentionally with respect to a result when he acted either in order to bring it about or being aware that it will occur in the ordinary course of events.'

Intention can be divided into direct intent or oblique intent (foresight of consequences).
